Flower Mobile

For my final project, I wanted to use environmental materials that I can get from my surroundings. To make this mobile, I used dried flowers as my primary material. Before making the actual instrument, I tried different ways to make sounds using flowers. After testing different ways, I learned that dried flowers make a more interesting sound compared to natural flowers. Dried flowers made a similar sound to the sound of walking in the forest. To make this flower mobile, I used a thin board, string, tape, plastic bags, and dried flowers.

My idea for this project was to make an instrument just using natural resources. I decided to use flowers as my primary resource because it is a natural resource that I could find easily from where I am living right now. My goal was to make a sound similar to the sounds from the forest. In the forest, when you step on to the leaves or branches, you can hear some rustling sound. I wanted to make similar sounds using dried flowers and make people feel that they are actually in the forest.
To make this mobile, I picked up some flowers from my backyard and started to dry them for more than one week. Also, I had some flowers that had dried before, so I decided to use them in my project. I tied up flowers with string and attached them to a thin board. To make a better sound, I made flowers to stay denser.
For my video, I took video and recording separately, and I added them together during editing. I took video and recording separately because while I was taking a video of this flower mobile, I noticed that the sounds are not coming out clearly. Also, the sound was very small. So I just did a separate recording using my phone and added together with the video.

While working on my project, I learned that setting a goal is the most important part of the working process. I could not decide the direction of this assignment until I set a goal. After setting a goal, it was way easier for me to plan and think about how to make the object and the sound. After I finished making this mobile, I tried several different ways to make sounds. But, the sound did not come out as I expected. After experiencing it for a long time, I learned how to make a clear sound using this flower mobile. Before, I did not have any experience making sounds using different materials. While working on this assignment, I learned and enjoyed a lot from it
